What I've been listening to Vol. III: Meowths Jaw

Late last night a record was leaked across the land. And it was a bad rip (see: Sneasel). Then, it was updated into a fine rip and that record was Two Worlds, the latest from Meowths Jaw. If you like 90's emo, anything previously released by Meowths Jaw, or uniting all peoples within our nation I would suggest purchasing said album. Guest vocals from Jesse of Team Rocket during one of the last songs. So prepare to fight unless you surrender to this evil album of both truth and love, and you'll be screaming along to the stars above.

What I've been listening to Vol. II

Time for another session of "What I've Been Listening To," a comparison of my world of music to the world of Pokemon. You'll also notice that I completely changed the look of the blog. Let me know what you think via comment, or use the chat box on the right of the page. (deviantart)

Laura Stevenson and the Cans: A Record
Sounds Like: Eevee having a nice relaxing summer day outside, but knowing it has to evolve the next day at the judgement of a battle hungry trainer.

Download

Tame Impala - Innerspeaker
Sounds Like: Buizel catching some gnarly swells at a sick surf sesh, followed by getting high and falling asleep on the beach.

Download

Misfits - Collection I
Sounds Like: Gengar and Haunter raising hell in Celadon City.

Download

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of the Dead - Source Tags & Codes
Sounds Like: The last patch of tall grass before the town after getting out of a cave, when you only have two Pokemon that haven't fainted, one is paralyzed, and the other one is the shit Pokemon you taught Flash to just because you had to.

stressed

So stressed about getting stuff together for student teaching and the rest of my life. I need it to be a month from now. Then my Mudkip can be a Swampert and I'll go kill my troubles with Hammer Arm. It's a move he learns at level 69. What the fuck is up.

Also, in honor of a water pokemon, I'll give you the album Porch Luck by Hightide Hotel. The title track is the most incredible thing I've heard in months. I love his voice. I love his message.

CRENCH WHEN YOU SREEP!

I've noticed that for the last few weeks I've been clenching my teeth unexplainably. (Image is the face I make while I cwunch my teeth in my sleep) Perhaps I'm worried about securing the final measures before starting my new semester as a "Trainer Teacher-in training." I'll be waking up at the crack of dawn every morning in order to ride my Acro Bike to the west side of town and inform a group of young trainers the lay of the land, and Pokemon history. You could call me a future Professor Oak, without the science, money, or desire to sleep with Jynx.

Other than that, I'm looking for money, and a haircut. If you can offer any of these services, for any of the services that I offer, get in touch with me via phone. This does not apply to Joey and his #1 Rattata. Fuck you if you call me again.

On a music related note, I've been listening to Malegoat a lot lately. Download their newest album here. Sounds like a cross between the energy of a Minun, with the party atmosphere of a Psyduck. ENJOY IT BRAH!

What I've been listening to Vol I

If you haven't been listening to Ursaring v. Sharpedo (Bear vs Shark) lately, you should be. Nothing gets me pumped as much as listening to them at work. And god help me if you ask me to turn down Buses/No Buses. Probably one of my top 3 bands of all time (who knows what the others are). They broke up long ago, but some are back together and making more kickass music as Bars of Gold. I invite you over to my house if you want to be a hipster doofus with me and listen to their "Right Now You're in the Best of Hands..." on vinyl with the two exclusive tracks. If you don't have their music, here you go. BTW, chances are that if you come into the coffee shop with me working, you'll hear their music within 30 minutes of being there.

Also, who would win? Ursaring obv.

STOP WHAT YOU'RE LISTENING TO

And listen to this. It is the Cake Life Collective Sampler Vol. I. If you like Algernon Cadwallader, which I'm pretty sure you do if you're reading this blog, check out all of these bands. I plan on seeing as many of them as possible as soon as possible. It makes me want to live in the greater Boston area like a mother fucker.

Also, I'm working on a big project for the blog, and if you would like to be a part of it, please let me know. I need your first and last name. You don't have to actually do anything. Just send me your name and I'll make something cool. What I'm doing involves drawing pictures, so it will probably take place over a longer period of time so don't be offended if you don't see yours soon. I realize how cryptic (unown) this sounds, but if you have seen my new fascination on the internet, you know what's happening.

Edit: Here is Vol. II of the Cake Life Collective sampler. Just as good.

Coffee life

The last two days I've worked at the coffee shop by myself during the day, and it's been busy as sin. Besides the total of 1 hour i didn't have a line today, I made myself a soy mocha, and I made a Moltres with the foam. I did. Seriously. You see that? It's a Moltres so fuck off.

Last night at a house show with Algernon Cadwallader (the best), I swear to god I heard someone shout Snorlax in between songs. I really hope that happened. I think I've just decided that it did. My life is now complete.

Music is Pokemon

Here are things I've been listening to lately. Listen to them while reciting your favorite Pokemon mating call in your backyard to have the biggest impact on your life .

1. Tubers - "Tubers"
Reminds me of: Swampert
For fans of: Snowing, 1994!

2. Glass and Ashes - "Glass and Ashes"
Reminds me of: Crobat
For fans of: Fucked up

3. Dinosaur Jr. - "You're Living All Over Me"
Reminds me of: Oddish's evolution chain
For Fans of: Hearing a song from a skateboarding video you watched when you were 14 and immediately feeling like the word is a lot simpler.

SPORTS!

Beer league sports can be more fun than watching a Psyduck fall down a flight of stairs, but it can also be as painful to be apart of as hugging a Cacturne. I will be playing Blackbears soccer next season (I'm probably the Staryu in that picture) with some of the funnest people, a decision I reached tonight after filling in since a lot of people weren't going to be there. I think I kicked the goalie in the face accidentally, made players much better than me question their ability to "school me" and jumped against to save a goal by blocking the ball with my face. Overall, flawless. Under-all, boxers.

And for those interested, Algernon Cadwallader is playing a show in Ferndale this Thursday. I will be there, and I will be singing along. Probably going to National Coney Island afterwards too because I love their breakfasts. PS, I have probably consumed 1,000 of their chicken tenders in my life time via Hani's and Chicken & Chips. I plan on acting on my feelings of remorse by becoming CEO of Tyson, then shutting the whole thing down.

Sunflora, make it summer!

I was able to laugh at myself today when I fell in 5 inches of snow on my walkway getting out from hockey. The problem is, I'm having trouble laughing at the fact that it's not summer, and it won't be for a few more months. I'd really like to call upon the strength of a grass pokemon to use Solar Beam.

Thankfully, Laura pointed me towards some music capable of reminding me of what summer will sound like when it comes. Noah and the Whale s/t and Bulbasaur singing.

House Show

So I finally saw my favorite band live, Algernon Cadwallader. It was an absolutely packed house show in Kalamazoo, and I was unsure how it was going to feel/sound once I walked in the door. As soon as they started playing in the packed basement, it was worth it. The music is incredibly technical and they were 100% on the whole time. The guitarist was getting smashed into the whole set and he never missed a note. The whole experience was amazing. Now the only band I haven't seen from the New York show is Agent. Hopefully soon enough.

Similar to the picture, the crowd was ass to ankles, pumped, and the band was electrifying.
